I must say this looks like one of the nicest food journals I have ever seen, nice and discreet, I like that!! I have used MANY journals, I am very impressed with this one!...The journal I have been using has PERSONAL FOOD AND EXERCISE DIARY written in huge letters on the front and while I am not ashamed that I use one, sometimes I like for it to be private, especially while using it in public. That is the first thing that caught my eye with your journal, how discreet and professional it looks and knowing it was designed by a person that actually USES a food journal and understands the usefulness makes it even better!!! I was never big on writing everything down but knew how important it is to do for weight loss (I mean, nearly every successful commercial weight loss program requires you to keep one!) Well, 52 pounds later, I am a believer, let me tell you! :) I am very excited about getting this one!
Here is what experts and authorities are saying about daily food diaries:

The Key to Weight Loss Success
It's Write In Front of You
-- By Rebecca Pratt, SparkPeople Contributor (Jan 2010)
"I feel the most important action one can take when trying to lose weight is to keep a food diary," says SparkPeople dietitian Becky Hand. "Yes, it takes time to write down everything consumed during the day, but this in itself can curtail overeating and be vital for self-assessment and monitoring. ... Studies show that people who keep food journals lose more weight and keep more of that weight off in the long run.
The National Weight Control Registry–an ongoing research project tracking more than 3,000 people who’ve lost an average of 66 pounds and kept it off for five years–found that keeping a food journal is the one strategy used by the majority of successful dieters. In fact, in a study of 1,685 dieters conducted by a health insurance company, the best predictor of weight loss throughout the first year was the number of food records kept per week. Another recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that dieters who tracked their food intake in a "food diary" lost twice as much weight as those who didn't track their food."
"...Keeping a food journal can make us uncomfortable because doing so forces us to recall things we’d rather not take note of—that chocolate shake we had for lunch, or that extra mound of mashed potatoes we regretted as soon we inhaled it. In other words: no pain, no gain. When you see the foods you’ve eaten listed in black-and-white, you can’t wish them away. But pain, even metaphorical pain, can be the impetus for change—and if used consistently, a food journal can be the instrument of that change." Order now!
“…I started the [a food] diary because I wanted to test the striking new results of a paper published in the August issues of American Journal of Preventative Medicine. Scientists at several clinical-research centers in the U.S. found that dieters who kept a food diary lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t…The senior investigator, Victor Stevens of Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore., told me [Dr. Gupta] ‘hands down, the most successful weight-loss method was keeping a record of what you eat.’ In the six-month study, participants who kept a food journal six or seven days a week lost an average of 18 lb. (8 kg), compared with an average of 9 lb. (4 kg) lost by non-diary keepers. …” Combined with diet and exercise.
Keeping a food diary can double a person's weight loss according to a study from Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research. The findings, from one of the largest and longest running weight loss maintenance trials ever conducted, will be published in the August issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
Funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the study is one of the few studies to recruit a large percentage of African Americans as study participants (44 percent). African Americans have a higher risk of conditions that are aggravated by being overweight, including diabetes and heart disease. In this study, the majority of African American participants lost at least nine pounds of weight, which is higher than in previous studies.
"The more food records people kept, the more weight they lost," said lead author Jack Hollis Ph.D., a researcher at Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore. "Those who kept daily food records lost twice as much weight as those who kept no records. It seems that the simple act of writing down what you eat encourages people to consume fewer calories." ... read more at: http://xnet.kp.org/newscenter/pressreleases/nat/2008/070808fooddiary.html
..."Track your eating patterns and physical activity every day. One of the tips of the "successful losers" tracked in the National Weight Control Registry is the importance of journaling food intake and activity. Entering this information into your online journal or in a notebook is a powerful motivator to help keep you working toward your goals."
WebMD also says, "In order to lose 1 pound of body fat per week, you need to cut and/or burn 3,500 calories per week. But first you need to have a pretty accurate idea of your starting point, such as how many calories you currently take in and use. You could do this by keeping a food journal, measuring everything you eat, and tracking calories you consume and calories you burn through exercise and normal daily activities, like doing housework or yard work."Order now!
Write down everything you eat..."It keeps you honest," says Isabeau. "Plus, I realize I don't have to cut everything I love out of my diet, like ice cream. I can have a small scoop, as long as I stay within my daily calorie allowance."

The key to shedding pounds—and keeping them off—could lie in our everyday habits.
By The American Institute for Cancer Research
With more than two-thirds of American adults overweight or obese, many people are searching for ways to lose weight—and possibly decrease the risk of cancer at the same time. According to some recently published studies, the key to shedding pounds and keeping them off may lie in our everyday habits.
Here are three behavioral strategies that may help:
Pick Up a Pen: Tracking what you eat in a food diary can lead to shedding more pounds, according to a study published this month in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. In the study, approximately 1,700 participants were asked to restrict calories, exercise at moderate intensity levels, attend group sessions, and follow a diet high in fruit and vegetables aimed at stopping hypertension (the DASH diet). After six months, more than two-thirds of the participants lost at least nine pounds. The biggest weight loss was experienced by those who kept the most extensive food records every week. Other behaviors associated with increased weight loss include more minutes spent exercising and attending group sessions. http://health.msn.com/weight-loss/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100213859
